5 Springtime Shows and Exhibits to See in Chicago

There’s no denying it—Chicago is one of the greatest cities for local talent, within dance, comedy, music, theater, and art—and it has a rich, creative culture that draws people in from all over the world. With each season in Chicago come new and exciting shows and exhibits that appeal to wide audiences, where there’s a bit of everything for everyone. Here are five springtime productions and demonstrations that you should mark on your to-do list.

Macbeth

Running from April 25th to June 24th Macbeth is a Shakespearean favorite you won’t want to miss. (Just don’t say the cursed name when at the theater!) Playing at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre at Navy Pier, it’s a dark tale that’s one of Shakespeare’s most dramatic tragedies. Embodying elements of power, mystery, murder, and ambition, it’s a show that really resonates with you and opens your eyes to an obscure, stark reality.

The Sound of Music

For one week only, from April 10-15th, you can re-live The Sound of Music, at the Cadillac Palace Theater. A classic written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, and likely a show you grew up memorizing the words to, is surely a performance you need to check off on your calendar and book tickets for fast.

Mummies: Images of the Afterlife

Head on over to the Field Museum from March 16th to April 21st, 2019, to experience what 14 mummies looked like when alive, thanks to an inside look from CT scans involving the Egyptian and Peruvian culture. It’s super exciting to know that this exhibit will be returning this spring season—and staying for a while, too.

Art With Heart

This new exhibit at the International Museum of Surgical Science in Gold Coast lets you see illustrations and animation designs from biomedical students in Chicago. Expect to see scarily accurate depictions of skeletons and organs to see how science and physiology work together and to appreciate a new, artistic spin on what’s truly going on inside your body. This exhibit will run between March 16th and May 6th.

Dirty Dancing

Coming to Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theater from May 22nd to June 3rd, this musical based off of the 1987 movie we’ve all come to love will have as much sexy dancing and rock n’ roll as expected. It’ll be a flashy, modern show that packs in all the tunes and moves you’re dying to see on the stage. Be sure to book your tickets to Dirty Dancing the musical in advance, as it’s surely in high demand.
