Grab your pumpkin spice lattes and pull on your sweaters, the leaves are starting to change colors in Chicago. Fall is quickly approaching, which brings lots of fun fall activities to do. Autumn in Chicago is always a festive time, full of exciting activities to keep you busy and gorgeous fall colors to see. Here are 7 of the must do fall activities that will have you feeling ready for the season in Chicago.

Attend Lincoln Square’s Apple Fest

Few things scream fall like apples, and Lincoln Square is here to provide all the apples you could dream of eating at Apple Fest. On October 1st and 2nd, come and enjoy the festive tradition full of activities for the whole family. Live music from local musicians will fill the air and apple inspired dishes will make your mouth water. The second day of the festival features a costume contest for your dog, with 5 prizes up for grabs. Vendors selling food, retail items, and fresh produce will line the street, making this the perfect fall activity.

Watch a Chicago Bears game

With fall comes football season, and fans love cheering on the Chicago Bears. Soldier Field is one of the locals’ favorite spots to visit during the fall months. If you want to watch a game that will really get your blood pumping, the Bears play their rivals from Wisconsin, the Green Bay Packers, on September 18th. Sports fans will be able to watch Justin Fields and Aaron Rodgers go head to head in the stands, or cheer from a sports bar with a drink in hand.

Go to Midnight Circus in the park

If you’re looking to get outside and enjoy the fall breeze, the Midnight Circus is sure to keep you entertained. Performing at several different parks in Chicago throughout the fall, this open-air circus is 45 minutes long and completely free. Make sure to reserve your tickets ahead of time to ensure you get a spot in the audience section. Concessions are available, so bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the show.

Experience Oktoberfest

The iconic Oktoberfest goes from September 23rd to 25th and features live music and a celebration of Bavarian Culture. In traditional fashion, St. Alphonsus Church on Wellington Ave will be home to the festival again this year. Warm your belly with craft beers, pretzels, and brats, while playing games and taking advantage of the photo opportunities. Kids can look forward to face painting, arts and crafts, and dance parties. This is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy time with your family and friends, dance the polka, and enjoy the cooler weather.

Stroll through the West Town Art Walk

If you’re one to enjoy the beauty of the changing colors of the fall leaves, this one’s for you. Art lovers can gather to appreciate the West Town Art Walk, which showcases the neighborhood and the unique businesses in it. Each business holds a special event or promotion, where you can enjoy photography, paintings, sculptures, and more. There are even free pedicabs available for people who need help getting around and still want to enjoy the event. Make sure to pick up your free gift for attending, a red button that shows off your pride in the arts. From September 23rd to the 24th, you can enjoy the art scene and the culture that Chicago has to offer at the West Town Art Walk.

Cheer on runners at the Chicago Marathon

The cool air is perfect for exercising, and Chicago takes full advantage of it. Whether you’re a runner or a spectator, the Chicago Marathon is an event that the whole city can enjoy. This year it takes place on October 9th, weaving in and out of Chicago’s famous neighborhoods. Spectators have several options for spots to cheer, from Chinatown to Grant Park to Northalsted. It’s a party hanging out around the course, where you can see mariachi bands and even drag queens cheering on runners. Lace up your running shoes and get ready to support at one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
